What is it?

Expect to have a lot of fun! This event is all about a love of downhill running. We've created a fast and testing course, worthy of its name, but the main thing is to have as much fun as possible, so expect lots of cheering!

Just like a downhill biking or skiing event, each runner gets two timed runs on the well-marked course and there is an opportunity for open practice.

Who is it for?

Everyone14 years and over who enjoys running downhill! The course will entertain slower runners and challenge quicker runners.

What is the course like?

The course has 160 metres of descent (and only 40 metres up - well, we had to include some ascent to make it a fell race!) over 1.5km of mixed terrain including moorland, woodland and banked turns for extra pace! (Holding your arms out like an aeroplane whilst going "Weeeee!" as you "fly" around the berms is optional!) Expect a fast descent on a runner's line.

How does it work?

You will be started individually at 3 minute intervals. Hopefully this means that you won't need to overtake slower runners as you descend ... and won't have to worry about being overtaken!

You will be asked when your place is confirmed whether you would rather a morning or afternoon slot and we'll do our best to accommodate everyone's wishes as much as we can.

You'll also be asked how quick you expect to be in terms of where you normally finish in a fell race. Are you a greyhound finishing in the first 25%, a border collie like the CVSRT search dogs finishing in the middle 50% or do you bring up the rear in the last 25%?

This will enable us to place your runs alongside similar athletes to minimise the likelihood that you'll encounter anyone else while you're out on the course. It's all about your run.

Essential kit
  • Fell shoes with an "aggressive" sole - no really! You'll want as much grip as you can get without resorting to crampons! In other words, you can only run in fell shoes (e.g. Walsh PB, Inov8 Mudclaws or X-Talons); not cross country spikes or football boots and certainly not road shoes.
  • A spare layer for while you are waiting at the top of the course. We'll do our best to minimise the time you spend hanging around, but there will inevitably be a bit of a delay. We wouldn't want you getting cold and having to call out Mountain Rescue now, would we?!
  • Bells and whistles! Ok, not exactly essential but if you're coming with supporters they can cheer you on from course-side as you "fly" past!
Please do not recce the course before race day!

The guys at Havok are big supporters of CVSRT and are letting us use their facility. Please respect that by NOT reccying the course prior to the event. In keeping with skiing and mountain bike downhill events, you will have an opportunity to "inspect the course" before your morning or afternoon race time.

Facilities and parking

Drinks and light refreshments will be available (for a further donation).

There is limited parking available at Havok Bike Park. Please car-share where possible.

How can I enter? Can I enter on the day?

The Yorkshire Downhill Time Trial is available by pre-entry only. There will be no entries on the day. Due to the nature of the event we are limited to 60 runners only.

Entries are £5 (for 2 timed runs) for runners aged 14 and over.

Entries are now closed as the race is full!

PMBA Enduro Ambassador, Tom Wilson

The PMBA Enduro Series, have tried to appeal to grassroots riders, and especially the younger riders and women. Since 2013 they have been putting on grassroots enduro events and this investment into the future is really paying off, they have four fast young racers that are PMBA success stories. From starting their enduro racing with PMBA Enduro they are now looking at worldwide racing success, and the PMBA are supporting them as best we can. Following on from filming Callum Russell last week, here is one of the other riders, Tom Wilson onboard his Orange Bikes Stage 6 riding at a very icy and snowy Havok Bike Park.
