Incident #925 Bolton Woods Quarry

Monday 25th April, 2016 at 18:50.

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team received a request from West Yorkshire Police to attend an incident where two children were trapped on a ledge approximately 20’ from the ground at Bolton Woods Quarry, Bradford. Once on-scene it was established that West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service had everything under control and the rescue to recover the boys was underway. Also in attendance were Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Hazardous Area Response Team.

CVSRT members remained at the incident until the boys were safety lowered to the ground, then returned to base and onward to their homes.

CVSRT received a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Yorkshire Air Ambulance for urgent assistance with the immediate evacuation of a horse rider who had fallen from her mount whilst out riding along a bridle path near Shibden Brook, Halifax.  The lady had sustained head and ankle injuries from the fall.

Once on-scene, CVSRT members transferred the casualty by stretcher to the helicopter for airlifting to hospital.

At 19:07 on Friday 22nd April, CVSRT received a request from Rossendale and Pendle MRT (RPMRT) to assist with an ongoing search for a vulnerable missing 72yo gentleman in Whitworth near Rochdale.

As CVSRT members prepared to deploy to the search, a second callout was received by the team from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS), requesting urgent assistance with the evacuation of a 12yo mountain biker who had sustained a lower leg injury in woodland near Cornholme, Todmorden.

13 members were immediately deployed to assist. However, whilst on route team members were stood down, as the on-scene paramedics had managed to safely evacuate the casualty to the ambulance.

Meanwhile, 7 CVSRT members with search dog Jack were deployed to assist RPMRT with the Whitworth search. During the night, all search areas were cleared and the team stood down and returned to base, then onward to their homes at 02:07. Lancashire Police have since confirmed that the missing gentleman was found safe and well overnight in Rochdale. A happy ending!

CVSRT requested by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with the evacuating of a 12yr old casualty who had fallen off mountain bike sustaining ankle injury.  Team stood down on route as YAS crew managed to evacuate the casuality to the ambulance.

The team were called out to help in the search for a missing elderly gentlemen. After arriving on scene the team were stood down after the missing person was found.
