Earlier today, Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team was contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service requesting assistance with a search for a vulnerable 30yr female who had gone missing and was in need of medical attention.

12 CVSRT members with Search dog ‘Pepper’ were deployed to the location near West Bradford Golf Club. Due to the location, our neighbouring team, Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, was also placed on stand-by, however thankfully their services were not required.

Whilst the police helicopter searched from over head, a search area was identified and the team deployed. Shortly after entering the woodland, Search dog ‘Pepper’ with handler Ellie Sherwin found the missing female alive, but in need of urgent medical assistance.

The remaining CVSRT members and YAS paramedics were guided to the casualty’s location and affected a swift evacuation to the ambulance.

At 18:00, the team returned to The Rescue Post, then onward to their homes or work. Excellent teamwork and a great result.

Well done ‘Pepper’ for the quick find…(and Ellie of course).

Shortly after 3pm on Sunday 25th September, CVSRT was contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service with regards an incident at Page Hill, Wheatley (Halifax), involving a young male who had unfortunately fallen from a tree in woodland landing on the rocks below sustaining facial injuries.

The first CVSRT members quickly arrived on-scene, along with the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (WYFRS) crew from the Illingworth Fire Station.

Working together with the paramedics from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (who were already on scene), the casualty was treated for his injuries and placed onto a mountain rescue stretcher.

As the casualty was in a difficult to access location, team members from CVSRT and WYFRS created a route through the undergrowth and carried the stretcher from the woods to a land ambulance. The ambulance then drove the casualty up the hill to where the air ambulance was waiting in a field nearby.

Members from CVSRT and WYFRS then assisted with the transfer from the ambulance to the helicopter, before making sure the area was clear of equipment and by-standers so the helicopter could safely take off.

The multi-agency teamwork made the evacuation very smooth and efficient.

At 13:34 today, West Yorkshire Police alerted CVSRT to an incident involving a mountain biker who had fallen off his bike whilst negotiating a technical section of a cycle trail and fell approx. 10metres down a steep banking. Details of exact location or potential injuries were initially vague, therefore various emergency resources were deployed to the scene whilst more details were confirmed.

Emergency services on-scene established that the rider was stuck down the enbankment, hence the call for assistance, but unhurt. He was rescued by WYFRS Technical Rescue and checked over for injuries by our team doctor and paramedic, but thankfully required no medical assistance.

Team members stood down and returned to base, then onward to their homes or places of work.

Once stable the patient was stretchered the short distance to the waiting ambulance. Due to his injuries the decision was made to fly the casualty to hospital via the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team were contacted by Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, a neighbouring rescue team, to help with an ongoing search for a dog walker lost on the moors between Hebden Bridge and Blackstone Edge. The walker had lost their way during the storm that preceded nightfall.

NPAS Carr Gate (Police Helicopter) were already flying above the moor and by a combination of their search light and one of our team talking to the missing walker, a quick find was made.

The missing walker was stabilised and extracted to a team vehicle by stretcher. They were then taken to the road head and an awaiting ambulance.

CVSRT were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service, requesting assistance with an ongoing incident in the Calder Valley. A male out enjoying the good weather had sustained an ankle injury at the waterfalls known locally as Lumb Falls.

24 team members were available to respond immediately and made their way to the casualty’s location.

Once on scene, casualty care was administered to stabilise the patient’s injury whilst an extrication plan was conceived. Due to the difficult location, a rope system was used to bring the casualty on to safer ground from where the stretcher could be carried.

Following a stretcher carry out of the valley, the patient was transferred into the care of the ambulance service for onward transport to hospital.
