At 12.25 today, Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team received a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with the evacuation of an injured 70yr female at Otley Chevin.‬

‪By coincidence, a doctor from CVSRT was in the area and diverted to the incident to help the casualty whilst additional team members deployed from our four vehicle bases at Mytholmroyd, Copley, Halifax Fire Station and Todmorden Ambulance Station. ‬ ‬

‪Once on-scene, the team doctor provided thermal insulation to the casualty and then coordinated the evacuation to a nearby private ambulance (crewed by Oak Valley Event Medics), which was attending the Chevin Chase fell race. Then the lady was handed over to the Yorkshire Ambulance crew for treatment and onward journey to hospital.‬‬

01 Dec 2018

At 14.23 on Saturday 1st December, CVSRT were alerted to an incident involving a competitor in the ladies senior race at the Red Rose Cross Country League event at Centre Vale Park in Todmorden.

In wet and very muddy conditions, a lady had fallen and sustained a lower leg injury requiring immediate medical assistance. Race marshals, (including two members of Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team who happened to be at the event), were quickly on scene to provide basic first aid. An ambulance was requested and advised that due to the location of the incident the crew would also require help to transfer the woman to the ambulance. Two CVSRT vehicles with crew were deployed to assist with the evacuation.

Whilst the remaining team members arrived on-scene, the casualty received pain relief before her leg was splinted. Once comfortable, the lady was packaged and transferred by stretcher to the ambulance. As the team completed this first incident, race marshals alerted team members to a second incident involving a male runner with a leg injury. CVSRT members provided first aid and pain relief before helping the casualty into his friends car for onward journey to hospital.
