On Sunday (21st May), CVSRT provided safety cover for the annual Calderdale Way Relay, which is organised by Halifax Harriers AC and is generally attended by over 1000 club runners from across the country.

At 09:15, team members were called to assist a runner who had fallen and sustained a dislocated shoulder. (See Incident 1014). The runner received pain relief whilst his injury was dealt with. Whilst dealing with this first incident, team members were made aware of a second incident where a runner had fallen against a barbed wire fence sustaining minor wounds to a hand.

Later in the day, CVSRT received a request from race organisers to assist a runner who had sustained an ankle injury near Wainstalls Checkpoint. Six team members attended the checkpoint to provide assistance, pain relief and transport to A&E. (See Incident 1015). Whilst dealing with this casualty, another runner arrived at the checkpoint requiring medical assistance for minor cuts. Wounds were cleaned and dressed.

Despite a few incidents, the whole event passed by relatively quietly. As usual CVSRT entered a team of runners as well and whilst we may not be the fastest runners in the event, we certainly gave some a run for their money!

Thank you to the organisers, marshalls, all the competitors and spectators who lined the route.

Wishing the injured runners a speedy recovery.
