CVSRT & RNLI benefit from generous donation
On Wednesday 5th October, Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team members welcomed a local family to The Rescue Post, who had been in touch wishing to make a donation of £465. This generous amount was part of a £930.00 collection raised at the funeral of Michael Boyle of Elland, who sadly died on 8th September 2016, aged 73. £465 was also kindly donated to the RNLI by the family.
Whilst at our base, the whole family enjoyed a light-hearted evening learning more about what we do and the essential voluntary service the team provides within the community, supporting the other emergency services.
Michael’s family said, “Over the years, he had enjoyed walking the Pennine Way and most of the footpaths and bridleways in and around Calderdale. Fortunately Michael never required the assistance of the rescue services but always recognised their invaluable work. He would have been happy knowing the donations made at his funeral were going to such worthy causes.”
“For most of his adult life, Michael gave blood regularly and on his death became an organ donor, which potentially saved the lives of 4 people. Knowing this and also donating the funeral collection to CVSRT and RNLI has brought great comfort to the family. We feel it’s important to support the members of our community who volunteer and put their own lives on the line to rescue others. Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who attended Michael’s funeral and kindly added to the donations”.
CVSRT would like to thank Michael’s family for their kind donation and for supporting the team. All donations go directly towards keeping the team operational and helping us save lives.
