El Gato Negro

26 Jun 2014

Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team is absolutely delighted to announce the launch of a new fundraising campaign by the award winning Spanish Tapas restaurant, El Gato Negro Tapas based in Ripponden. The initiative aims to raise awareness and much needed funding for the team.

The campaign, which launched this week encourages an optional donation from all diners and will help the team to continue to provide the essential life-saving emergency services to the local community and visitors whilst out and about in our operational area.

Headed up by chef and proprietor Simon Shaw, El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant in the beautiful village of Ripponden in West Yorkshire which serves a stunning selection of seasonally-inspired dishes influenced by the very best of modern Spanish cuisine and traditional techniques.

El Gato Negro opened in 2005 with the aim of bringing some of the magic of modern Spanish cooking to Yorkshire. The restaurant has won numerous awards including the prestigious Bib Gourmand recognised in the Michelin Guide in 2014.

CVRST Team Leader, Les Wilson said ‘We are extremely grateful to Simon Shaw and the El Gato Negro team, for developing this initiative which will not only raise awareness for the teams work within the area, but also to their customers, many of whom we know, whose generosity will help to make this a huge success.’

Simon added, ‘When I realised the real extent of the valuable work that CVRST carry out and that it is all completely voluntary, I felt that it was a truly worthwhile cause which deserved to be fully supported in whichever way we can. I hope that our customers will feel similarly and support us in this initiative.’

He continued ‘Many people think that the team only supports hill walkers, mountain bikers and fell runners, of which there are many in this area, however it also provides a valuable resource to all the emergency services – CVSRT is highly trained in all aspects of search and rescue in wild and remote places.

It’s worth remembering the search team will play a key support role during the Tour de France Grand Départ that passes through Yorkshire …(and Ripponden) on July 6th’.
