NEW TRAINEE

28 Nov 2020
#NEWTRAINEE

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team have a new trainee, and perhaps the cutest one yet!

Please welcome Spot who joins his handler, Simon Adams, on the team as he begins the long journey to become an operational search dog.

Spot is a six month old Collie, joining a team full of experienced trainee and operational search dogs who will help look after him.

The support of the team will be invaluable as all Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England (MRSDE) dogs undergo an intense training and assessment programme for up to 3 years before they are accredited for operational work.  This training and assessment continues throughout their operational life to ensure their skills remain at the highest level.

The dogs love the work they do and a highlight of our team training is acting as a dogs body, hiding in the hills to be found by a smiling and energetic dog.  Just watch out for those puppy teeth!

CVSRT are currently experiencing a quiet period of team callouts, however, even during this the team are regularly involved in incidents that do not result in a full team call out.

Over the last few weeks our leaders have been called to assist the police with two missing persons searches. Thankfully on both occasions the person was located before our full team was called to assist.

We also recently supported a neighbouring team in assisting with a further ongoing search for a missing person.  This assistance over 2 separate days involved CVSRT providing Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) dedicated Search dog teams (each team includes a search dog, handler and navigator) to work along side BMRT members to search specific areas identified.

All of the above instances highlight the dedication of all Mountain Rescue England and Wales Teams across the country as we support our emergency services and each other when called upon.
