#2021 Looking Back

As we welcome in the New Year this post takes a moment to look back at 2021 and the efforts of Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT), their members and their supporters throughout the year.

103 Callouts
Assisting the statutory emergency services when our assistance is required is the reason CVSRT exists. Following on from 2020 which was one of the busiest years with 96 full team callouts in total, 2021 was even more so with 103 callouts throughout the year. This equates to almost 2 callouts per week.

Search Dogs
In addition to the full team callouts, 33 of which included search operations, our Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England (MRSDE) search dogs and handlers also attended 8 selected callouts supporting other teams.

11,600 Hours
The commitment each team member and supporter gives to the team every year is huge and during 2021 the total combined hours given was over 11,600!  This equates to 6 individuals working full time for the entire year.

Neighbouring Teams
With the high volume of calls both CVSRT and other Mountain Rescue England and Wales teams received in 2021, more than ever did we call upon the support of our neighbouring teams for support.  Thank you in particular to Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team (HVMRT) who assisted the team on numerous callouts in 2021.

Thank You
It costs over £45,000 per year to keep CVSRT operational and we could not do this without the support of our local community.  With COVID-19 still affecting our ability to hold and attend fund raising events for the majority of the year, this support was even more needed and welcome.
To those named below and to everyone else who has helped the team throughout 2021 including those who have wished us well as we pass out on the hills, the kids who give us an enthusiastic wave when we drive through your village, those who have donated their time and money to the team and to everyone who follows us and has kind words to say on social media, we would like to say a massive thank you!
