Last week Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) continued to be busy receiving 6 requests for Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) assistance from the statutory emergency services.

At 14:40 on Monday 18th October 2021 Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) received a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to assist with the evacuation of a male who had slipped whilst out walking in Stanbury, suffering a lower leg injury. 
 
CVSRT were first on scene and provided initial medical care and pain relief.  The injured ankle was placed into a protective box splint and the casualty was transferred onto a stretcher and carried a short distance to the awaiting ambulance.

At 21:39 on Tuesday 19th October 2021 Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) received a request from Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) with the ongoing search for David McCartney.

On Wednesday 20th October 2021 Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) search dogs continued to support Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) with the ongoing search for David McCartney.

At 19:35 on Wednesday 20th October 2021 Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) received a request from West Yorkshire Police (WYP) to assist with the search for a high risk missing person.

At 16:02 on Thursday 21st October 2021 Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) received a request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to assist with the evacuation of a female who had slipped whilst out walking in Dixy Woods, Sowerby Bridge, suffering a lower leg injury. 
 
CVSRT local to the area were first on scene and provided initial medical care.  Upon arrival of YAS and remaining CVSRT team members further medical care and pain relief was provided.
 
The injured ankle was placed in an immobilising box splint and the casualty was treated for mild hypothermia and placed into a warming and immobilising vacuum mattress, winter casualty bag and onto a stretcher. 
With the added safety of a rope line fixed to the stretcher the casualty was carried up a steep bank out of the woods, through a farm field an to the waiting ambulance.

At 06:00 on Saturday 23rd October Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) joined Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA), North Yorkshire Police (NYP) and fellow Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) teams with the ongoing search for David McCartney. 
 
Our thoughts are with the friends and family of David at this sad time.
