#NationalMapReadingWeek

This week is National Map Reading Week which is aimed to help get you prepared for greater adventures this summer!

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team along with Mountain Rescue England and Wales recommended when intending to go out in the hills, to be #adventuresmart.

Ask yourself 3 questions before you set off:
1. Do I know what the weather will be like?
2. Do I have the right gear?
3. Do I have the knowledge & skills for the day?

The technology available today is fantastic, but it can fail us by locking up, loosing signal or can run out of battery so we always recommended taking a map and compass with you and have the skills to use them.

With the summer holidays approaching why not make the most of the outdoors and if you have children take them along and look to to inspire the next generation of map readers and help instil a love of the outdoors.
@ordnance Survey have lots of great ideas to help get kids reading maps and excited about exploring the outdoors http://ow.ly/GvZm50FoP1p

Be safe and enjoy.
