Probationary Assessment
We are often asked, “I want to join the team… what are you looking for from an Operational Full Team Member?”
Team members come from all walks of life, from every part of our operational area and from any age group and background. To be considered for our training programme, you must first meet our essential criteria before being considered for the ‘hill skills assessment’. Successful candidates are then invited to join the 6+ month trainee phase followed by a 9+ months probationer phase.
Yes but what exactly are we looking for? Simple really, we require commitment and teamwork.
There is nothing heroic or romantic about being in a rescue team – just 5% inspiration and 95% hard slogging. Operational Full Team Members are on-call: 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, ready to attend a callout, what ever the time of day or weather conditions at a moments notice… all voluntary, all unpaid.
This weekend sees the current Probationary Members (2015-16) take their final assessment - a non-stop 24hr test of attitude, aptitude and ability – the perfect opportunity for our six ‘probies’ to demonstrate what they have learnt. We will bring you a full assessment report next week.
Good luck and enjoy.

Please note: Our next potential trainees have already been short listed and will be attending their hill skills assessment later this month. We are NOT recruiting any further members at present – applications are closed.
