Mobile 4
Calder Mobile 4 is a 2018 Volkswagen Transporter 4×4 that has been custom‑converted for Mountain Rescue operations and serves as an Incident Control Vehicle, providing a self‑contained command platform for remote and prolonged incidents.
The vehicle seats four and, once on scene, converts into an incident control unit equipped with two computers for mountain rescue mapping and incident logging, three radio systems covering Mountain Rescue, SAR helicopter communications, and Airwave emergency services. It has a 6‑metre extending mast to improve radio coverage.
The vehicle features auxiliary power with internal and external scene lighting, onboard 240V electrics, generator power for extended operations, and a stationary diesel heater for cold conditions. Welfare facilities include a 2‑litre hot water boiler for hot refreshments and an external awning for briefings in wet weather. The vehicle also has the capability to carry a stretcher, primarily for treating and stabilising casualties on scene prior to handover to the Ambulance Service.
