Volunteer

Our team is made up of people from all walks of life, spanning a wide range of ages and drawn from across our operational area. Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team is run entirely by volunteers and relies solely on donations to continue its vital work.

There are several ways you can get involved and support the team. Volunteering opportunities fall into two key roles: Operational Team Members and Support Team Members.

Join as an Operational Team Member

Applications closed for 2026

Operational team members are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, ready to attend any callout.

What we are looking for

Essential criteria and qualities of an aspirant Operational Team Member:

  • 18+ years old
  • Live within our operational area
  • Daytime availability is favourable
  • Be able to commit a significant amount of time to the team, including regular Tuesday night training and additional ad-hoc sessions at weekends, team fundraising and social events
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Be physically fit to meet the demands of the team
  • Have good hillwalking experience
  • Be able to navigate confidently on open ground, in all conditions

If you are interested in becoming an Operational Team Member, please fill in the enquiry form and include you telephone number, so our Training Officer can contact you for an informal chat about the role. After this, you may be invited to fill in an application form and attend a Hill Assessment Day. Successful applicants will then spend a period of time training with the team and undergo further assessment, before being accepted as full Operational Team Members.
