Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/.  

After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

– If you leave a comment, you may opt‑in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These last for one year.  

– If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.  

– When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.  

– If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. It contains the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third‑party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Contact forms

Payment information (such as card details) is not stored on our servers. Payments are processed securely through our third‑party payment provider, who handles your financial data in accordance with their own privacy policy.

Order information is retained for accounting, tax, and legal purposes for up to 7 years, as required under UK law.

We do not share your purchase information with third parties except those necessary to fulfil your order (e.g., payment processors, delivery services).

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Shop orders may be shared with payment processors and delivery partners solely for the purpose of completing your purchase.

How long we retain your data

– Comments: Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely to recognise and approve follow‑up comments automatically.  

– Registered users: For users who register on our website, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except usernames). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.  

– Contact form submissions: Retained for up to 12 months unless needed longer for operational or legal reasons.  

– Shop orders: Retained for up to 7 years for accounting and legal compliance.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, have left comments, submitted a contact form, or made a purchase, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided.

You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.  

This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
