Wednesday, 28 September 2016Earlier today, Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team was contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service requesting assistance with a search for a vulnerable 30yr female who had gone missing and was in need of medical attention.
12 CVSRT members with Search dog ‘Pepper’ were deployed to the location near West Bradford Golf Club. Due to the location, our neighbouring team, Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, was also placed on stand-by, however thankfully their services were not required.
Whilst the police helicopter searched from over head, a search area was identified and the team deployed. Shortly after entering the woodland, Search dog ‘Pepper’ with handler Ellie Sherwin found the missing female alive, but in need of urgent medical assistance.
The remaining CVSRT members and YAS paramedics were guided to the casualty’s location and affected a swift evacuation to the ambulance.
At 18:00, the team returned to The Rescue Post, then onward to their homes or work. Excellent teamwork and a great result.
Well done ‘Pepper’ for the quick find…(and Ellie of course).

Tuesday, 16 August 2016Just as team members arrived for the monthly maintenance at our Mytholmroyd base, an urgent call from Yorkshire Ambulance Service was received for assistance with the evacuation of an 85yo man who had fallen over a wall and down the very steep embankment from Dudwell Lane towards the railway. Due to the precarious location of the casualty, the full team was immediately deployed.
As CVSRT members arrived at the location, it became apparent that the emergency services on-scene already had the incident under control. A handful of team members were tasked to assist with the stretcher carry at trackside, whilst the majority team members stood down.
Once the casualty was safely evacuated from the railway line and loaded into the ambulance, team members returned to base to complete the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
